St Barts is small, but the deeply indented
coastline has lots of anchorages.
Southwest Coast
Rade de Gustavia
Gustavia Harbour is known to offer
all-weather shelter although objectively
speaking it’s too open to the NW if
there’s a hurricane about, as witnessed by
the swell damage done by recent
cyclones.
In
order to leave the old port clear for
yachts, a commercial harbour has been
built in the Anse Public, where the fuel
dock is being rebuilt. That’s where you’ll
find the fuel dock. The designated port
zone now covers the whole of the Rade
de Gustavia (see plan). Anchoring is
regulated and a fee levied. The bestprotected
area, hence the most popular, is
under Pt Oscar, where the water is clear
but yachts swing around crazily. The
anchorage is rolly in a SE swell.

A stop in Gustavia is a good
opportunity to enjoy the facilities for
tourists and the duty free shopping as
well as the restaurants around the
charming little harbour. Provisioning is a
breeze thanks to supermarkets, the local
market and the wine merchants selling
French wines.
